Site Selection

Rank every candidate location, not just the ones someone thought of.

site-selection

The problem

Choosing where to build, place, or expand usually reduces to a handful of shortlisted options and an argument. The spatial data needed to compare them properly exists, but weighing accessibility, constraints, demand, and cost across a whole region is more work than a deadline allows.

How it works

Site Selection scores a whole study area against weighted criteria — constraints that exclude, factors that favour — and ranks candidates. Weights are yours to set, and every score decomposes back into the factors that produced it, so a ranking can be argued with rather than merely accepted.

Inputs

  • Study area boundary
  • Constraint layers: exclusions, protections, hazards
  • Factor layers: access, population, infrastructure, terrain, cost
  • Criteria weights

Outputs

  • Ranked candidate sites with scores
  • Suitability surface across the study area
  • Score decomposition per candidate
  • Comparison table and exportable GIS layers

Applications

  • Retail and service network expansion
  • Facility, plant, and depot siting
  • Renewable energy site screening
  • Public service and infrastructure placement

In your GIS

The suitability surface and ranked candidates export as raster and vector layers you can re-weight and re-run as conditions change.
